Candidates for Abdominoplasty

Candidates for tummy tuck surgery include men and women who are in relatively good shape, but have a stubborn, large fat deposit in the abdominal wall that requires tightening. Tummy tuck surgery is also recommended for women who have loose abdominal skin from the effects of pregnancy. Tummy tuck surgery for post-maternity women, often part of a mommy makeover, is not recommended for women who wish to become pregnant again. We perform tummy tuck surgery for patients throughout Bucks County, PA, including Doylestown, King of Prussia, Newtown and more.

The tummy tuck procedure is performed under general anesthesia in an accredited facility. In general, the procedure lasts one to three hours. Incisions are made inconspicuously from the hip over the pubic area. An incision is also made just below the hips in the pubic area so that scarring is easily hidden underneath clothing and swimwear. Excess skin and fat are elevated off the muscles, which are then tightened in order to flatten the abdomen and provide a slimmer waist. The belly button is repositioned after the abdominal tissues are flattened. Then the excess skin and fat are removed and the incisions are closed.

Dr. Skalicky and Dr. Shafran go to great lengths to ensure that the surrounding tissues are left unharmed and the recovery process is as easy as possible. Minor discomfort is expected for a couple weeks but can be relieved by prescribed pain medication. Although results are noticeable after a few weeks, it may take several months before the final improvements are seen. In order to maintain results, a healthy diet and regular exercise should be maintained. Followup with Dr. Skalicky or Dr. Shafran is recommended.
